The ten tools
What the AI does, who it suits and what it costs
The first four tools work on your books and GST data directly. The next four are general AI tools that accountants use for analysis, drafting and research. The last two are for audit. Most firms end up with one from each group, plus a clear rule about what client data may go where.
1. Zoho Books: Zia, Ask Zia and CoCreate
Zoho Corporation, India
Zoho Books is an Indian cloud accounting product with GST filing, e-invoicing and e-way bills built in, and Zia, Zoho’s assistant, layered on top. The higher plans add forecasting, anomaly detection and an agent that builds documents from plain-language instructions.
What the AI does: answers questions about your books in chat and can create transactions or summarise reports; builds quotes, sales orders, invoices and credit notes from a typed instruction, which you can edit; and flags anomalies, shows forecasts and suggests bank categorisation based on past choices (some features in early access).
Who it suits: SMEs and the CA firms that keep their books, especially those already on Zoho apps.

2. TallyPrime: Docs by Ira
Tally Solutions, India
TallyPrime, used by a large share of Indian businesses and their CAs, added Docs by Ira in Release 7.1 in June 2026. It uses AI to read invoices and bills and turn them into draft vouchers that a person reviews before saving.
What the AI does: extracts values from uploaded or imported invoices and bills; creates draft transactions for voucher types such as purchase, sales, orders, notes and receipts; and leaves your books unchanged until you accept the drafts. Documents can come from the TallyIra mobile app or be imported on desktop.
Who it suits: businesses and CA firms that already keep books in TallyPrime and spend hours keying invoices.
- Works inside the ledger most Indian CAs already use
- Drafts only: nothing posts without review
- Connected banking and GST reconciliation already in TallyPrime
- Needs Release 7.0 or later and an active TSS subscription
- Tally’s FAQ warns that handwritten invoices may not extract accurately

Where Skillopedia fits
The tools are ready. Is the team?
Skillopedia does not sell accounting software. We are a training firm (Skillopedia LLP, Mumbai, est. 2017) that has worked with 335+ organisations across 13 sectors, and we run live, in-company AI training for finance teams. Accountants, controllers and CA-firm staff practise on their own redacted reconciliations, schedules and notes, in the tools the firm has approved.
The focus is on review discipline: checking every AI-suggested entry, formula and figure, keeping client data in approved tools, and recording who reviewed what. Our guide on how to use AI in accounting shows the workflows step by step. Participants rate our programmes 4.8/5 on average (300+ surveyed).
How to choose
Which AI tools does a CA firm or finance team actually need?
Start in the ledger. If you keep books in Zoho Books or TallyPrime, switch on and test the AI they already include before adding anything. CA firms with many Tally clients should compare Vyapar TaxOne against the time article assistants spend keying entries.
Add GST automation where volumes justify it. Clear’s reconciliation and invoice checks are built for companies with heavy purchase volumes.
Pick one general assistant. Choose the one that matches your office suite: Copilot in Excel for Microsoft 365, Gemini in Sheets for Google Workspace, or ChatGPT Business. Running all three multiplies the data-handling questions.
Audit teams should trial DataSnipper or MindBridge on a completed engagement before using them live.

Questions to ask a vendor
- Which AI features are live today, and on which plan?
- Is our or our clients’ data used to train any model?
- Where is data stored and processed?
- Does anything post to the books without approval?
Red flags
- AI that posts entries with no review step
- No answer on data storage or training
- Claims of “zero errors”
- Client files in personal AI accounts
Before rollout
- Write a client-data rule for AI tools
- Pilot on one client or entity
- Train staff on checking output
- Keep review evidence on file
A rollout path
Bringing AI into an accounting practice in five steps
Accounting is a field where a confident wrong answer is expensive. This sequence keeps humans in control and builds evidence that the tools are helping.
Data and professional duties
What to check before client data goes into an AI tool
Client confidentiality. Chartered accountants owe clients confidentiality under ICAI’s Code of Ethics. Use approved tools with business terms, and only the data the task needs.
Personal data. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules notified in November 2025 apply to personal data in client records, such as employee payroll and customer details.
Tax answers. AI tools can misstate rates, sections and due dates. Verify against the Act, rules, notifications and circulars before advising a client.
Review evidence. Keep a record of who reviewed AI-assisted entries and working papers, as you would for any junior’s work.
Measuring it
How to tell whether an AI tool is earning its fee
Vendors publish their own time-saving claims; treat them as claims. Measure your own baseline on real work and compare.
| What to measure | How | When |
|---|---|---|
| Entry time | Minutes per invoice or bank statement, before and after | Weeks 0 and 6 |
| Correction rate | Share of AI-drafted entries changed at review | Monthly |
| Reconciliation gaps | Unmatched items and missed input tax credit found | Each GST cycle |
| Report turnaround | Days from month-end to management pack | Monthly |
| Adoption | Which staff still use the feature, and for what | Day 90 |

FAQ
AI tools for accountants and CAs: common questions
What are the best AI tools for accountants in India?
Start with the AI in your ledger: Zoho Books (Zia) or TallyPrime (Docs by Ira). CA firms with many Tally clients should look at Vyapar TaxOne, and GST-heavy companies at Clear. For analysis, use the assistant that matches your office suite. ICAI members can use CA GPT free.
Does Tally have AI?
Yes. TallyPrime Release 7.1 added Docs by Ira, which uses AI to extract values from invoices and bills and create draft vouchers for review. It needs Release 7.0 or later and an active TSS subscription.
Which AI tool is best for GST reconciliation?
Clear describes an AI-powered reconciliation engine in ClearGST, and Vyapar TaxOne offers GST validations and multi-source reconciliation for CA practices. TallyPrime also includes GST reconciliation features.
Is there a free AI tool for chartered accountants?
ICAI’s CA GPT is free for ICAI members. Zoho Books has a free plan, and several tools offer trials. Free personal accounts on general AI tools are not suitable for client data.
Can ChatGPT do accounting?
It can analyse exported data and draft explanations, but it is not an accounting system and does not keep books or file GST. Tax answers must be checked against the law.
Is Copilot in Excel useful for accountants?
Yes, for formulas, analysis, charts and PivotTables on data you already hold. Check every formula and figure, as you would a junior’s work.
Is QuickBooks available in India?
No. Intuit’s India page says QuickBooks products have not been available in India since July 2023.
Is it safe to upload client data to AI tools?
Only to tools your firm has approved with business data terms, and only the minimum needed. Confidentiality duties under ICAI’s Code of Ethics and the DPDP Act still apply.
Will AI replace accountants?
We do not make predictions about jobs. What we see is AI taking over data entry and first drafts, while judgement, review, advice and accountability stay with accountants.
What is the difference between this list and AI courses for finance?
This page compares software. Our separate list of AI courses for finance professionals compares programmes that build your own skills, including ICAI’s AI certificate courses.
Does Skillopedia sell any of these tools?
No. Skillopedia is a training firm. We train finance teams and CA firms to use the tools they already have, safely and consistently.
How should a CA firm start with AI?
Write a client-data rule, pilot invoice capture and one analysis task on a single client, train staff on review, and compare time and correction rates at day 30 and day 90. See AI training for finance teams.
