The ten programmes
What each course teaches, who it suits and what it costs
Read the “who it is for” line first. A ₹3.66 lakh executive programme and a free fluency course are not competing for the same learner, and the right pick depends on whether you want a career credential, a skill you can use on Monday, or both.
1. AIHR: Artificial Intelligence for HR Certificate Program

3. IIM Kashipur: Executive Programme in HR Management and Analytics
IIM Kashipur, delivered with TeamLease EdTech (Digivarsity)
The most affordable IIM option we could verify, with live Sunday sessions and an on-campus component. It is a broad HR management programme in which AI appears as a practical layer rather than the whole course.

4. Skillopedia: In-Company AI Training for HR Teams
Skillopedia LLP, Mumbai (est. 2017). Published on Skillopedia’s own site.
This is not an individual course and should not be compared with one on price. It is live in-company or cohort training for an HR function: recruiters, HRBPs, L&D and HR operations practise on their own redacted job descriptions, policies, interview guides and engagement data, on the AI tool your company has approved.
What your team learns: briefing an assistant on HR tasks, screening support with bias checks, policy and employee-query drafting, L&D content, and the review rules your HR head signs off. See the full scope on AI training for HR and the deeper generative AI for HR programme.
Who it is for: CHROs and HR heads who need the whole team working the same way, with a usage rule and a day-30 check, rather than one person with a certificate.
- Labs use your own HR work, redacted
- One method for the whole team, plus a usage rule
- Delivered by a firm that has worked with 335+ organisations across 13 sectors

6. SHRM: AI+HI Specialty Credential
SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management)
SHRM’s credential pairs AI with “human intelligence”: it is less about tools and more about designing AI use that people trust. Because it is earned through labs and a capstone rather than a classic exam, it suits people who learn by doing.
What you learn: AI essentials (literacy, prompting, responsible AI), designing human-centred AI solutions, and change management and impact measurement.
Who it is for: HR professionals who already hold or value SHRM credentials, and HR leaders shaping AI policy.

9. Wharton on Coursera: People Analytics
University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), on Coursera
Not a generative AI course, and we list it for that reason. Most AI-in-HR use cases fail on data, not on prompts, and this short course teaches how people data supports decisions on performance, hiring and attrition.
What you learn: performance evaluation, staffing and attrition analysis, and collaboration or network analysis.
Who it is for: HR professionals moving towards HR analytics, or anyone who wants to question an AI tool’s “insight” with confidence.

10. Anthropic Academy: AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations
Anthropic, developed with academics from University College Cork and Ringling College
A free course on working with AI well, whatever the tool. It teaches a framework for deciding what to delegate, how to describe a task and how to judge what comes back, which is exactly the judgement HR work needs.
What you learn: the 4D AI fluency framework, practical prompting techniques, and discernment when evaluating AI output.
Who it is for: any HR professional starting out, and HR teams that want a free shared foundation before tool-specific training.
- Free, with a certificate after a final assessment
- Tool-neutral thinking you can apply anywhere

Also considered: IIM Lucknow’s Advanced Programme in HR Management in the Age of Technology and AI (the next batch was “to be announced” when we checked), Google AI Essentials and Microsoft and LinkedIn’s Career Essentials in Generative AI (both general, not HR-specific), and XLRI’s HR analytics programmes, whose current batches had closed with no next date published.
How to choose
One HR professional, or a whole HR team?
If you are choosing for yourself, decide what you need the course to do. A career move into HR analytics or HR leadership justifies an ISB or IIM programme. A faster, cheaper skill upgrade points to AIHR or a Coursera course. If you are not sure AI will matter to your role, start with a free course and come back in a month.
If you are choosing for a team, the question changes. Ten recruiters on ten different courses will learn ten different habits, on example data that is not yours, with no shared rule for what may go into a prompt. That is the gap in-company training fills: one method, your own redacted work, and a review rule your HR head signs. If that is your situation, tell us about the team.
Questions to ask any provider
- Which HR tasks will I practise on, and whose data?
- Which AI tools are taught, and are they ones my employer allows?
- What exactly does the certificate certify?
- Is the next batch confirmed, and is the fee inclusive of GST?
Red flags
- “Certified” wording with no named issuing body
- Placement or salary promises
- Fees only revealed after a sales call
- Uploading real employee data to personal accounts
For HR heads buying for a team
- Can labs use our redacted JDs and policies?
- Will you help us write a usage rule?
- How will we know, at day 30, that it worked?
- Who answers questions after the training ends?
A learning path
A 90-day path from first prompt to a team workflow
Courses work best when they feed a routine. This is the sequence we suggest to HR professionals who are learning on their own, and it also works as a pilot for a small HR team. The order matters: fluency and permission first, then one real task, and only then a paid course, so that every module lands on work you already do.
For the recruiting side of this path, our guide on how to use AI in recruitment has worked prompts and review steps.
What good looks like
What an AI course for HR should cover in 2026
Real HR tasks. Job descriptions, interview guides, policy questions, onboarding plans, survey comments and learning content, practised end to end.
The tools you actually have. Many Indian employers license one assistant, such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Gemini for Google Workspace or Claude. A good course teaches habits that transfer and then practises on the one you are allowed to use.
Bias and fairness. How to keep AI from screening out candidates for the wrong reasons, and where a person must make the decision.
Personal data. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules notified in November 2025 shape how employee and candidate data may be processed. A course should explain the principles in plain terms: purpose, minimum data, notice and consent where they apply, and security.
Review and records. Who checks AI-assisted output before it reaches an employee or candidate, and how that check is recorded.
Measuring it
How to tell whether an AI course paid off
Course providers rarely publish outcome data you can rely on, and you should not assume it either. Measure your own work instead, before and after.
| What to measure | How | When |
|---|---|---|
| Time per HR task | Time three recurring tasks, such as a JD, an offer letter and a policy reply, before and after | Weeks 0 and 6 |
| Rework | Count how many AI-assisted drafts needed substantive correction at review | Monthly |
| Consistency | Check whether two people produce comparable output for the same brief | Week 6 |
| Candidate and employee experience | Track response time on queries and any complaints about tone or accuracy | Quarterly |
| Still in use | Ask which workflows people still run without prompting | Day 90 |

FAQ
AI courses for HR professionals: questions people ask
Which AI course is best for HR professionals in India?
It depends on the goal. For an HR-specific, self-paced course, AIHR’s AI for HR Certificate Program is the most focused we found. For an Indian institute certificate, ISB Online and IIM Kashipur are strong options at different price points. For a whole team, in-company training on your own work usually does more than individual courses.
Are there free AI courses for HR professionals?
Yes, though most free options are general rather than HR-specific. Anthropic Academy’s AI Fluency course is free with a certificate after an assessment. NPTEL courses usually allow free enrolment, but check the course page for current fees and exam costs, as we could not confirm them.
Is there an AI certification for HR professionals?
SHRM offers the AI+HI Specialty Credential, earned through labs and a capstone. AIHR, ISB Online, the IIMs and Coursera issue certificates of completion. A certificate shows you finished a course; it is not a licence, so look at what you practised.
Do I need coding skills for these courses?
No. None of the ten programmes here require coding. Analytics-heavy programmes such as ISB Online and IIM Kashipur use data tools, but they are designed for HR professionals without a technical background.
How long does an AI course for HR take?
From a few hours (free fluency courses) to about a month (Coursera specialisations), 16 weeks (ISB Online), six months (IIM Kashipur) or a year (IIM Calcutta).
What do IIM AI courses for HR cost?
Among the programmes we verified in October 2026, IIM Kashipur listed ₹80,000 plus GST and IIM Calcutta’s EPHRM listed ₹3,66,000 plus taxes. Fees change between batches, so confirm on the official page.
Which AI tools should HR professionals learn?
Learn the one your employer has approved first, whether that is Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Gemini or Claude. The core habits of briefing, checking and protecting data carry across tools.
Can HR use AI to screen CVs?
AI can help summarise CVs against a scorecard, but a person should make shortlisting decisions, and candidates’ personal data must be handled lawfully under the DPDP Act and your policies. Bias checks belong in the workflow.
Is it safe to put employee data into AI tools?
Only into tools your organisation has approved, and only the minimum data the task needs. Personal accounts on consumer AI tools are not the place for employee or candidate records.
Will AI replace HR jobs?
We do not make predictions about jobs. What we see in training is that AI takes over first drafts and summaries, while judgement, relationships and accountability stay with HR professionals.
Does Skillopedia run public AI courses for HR professionals?
No. Skillopedia runs live in-company and cohort programmes for organisations. Individuals can use the courses listed here; if several people in your company want the same skills, your HR or L&D head can ask us for a proposal.
How do we roll out AI training across an HR department?
Start with a usage rule and a short pilot on three recurring tasks, train by role, appoint champions and check what is still in use at day 30 and day 90. Our AI literacy training guide covers the company-wide picture.
